Following on from the
success we have enjoyed with our original Ladder AllotmentsÔ, We are bringing out a new Ladder AllotmentÔ with integral Polypropylene
bags ready for the new growing season. Ladder
Allotments have been a huge hit and we are constantly looking for ways to build on that success. All the various versions
of bookcase/ladder gardening systems on the market use individual pots or containers on the shelves to grow produce in, but
for our new Ladder Allotment we have designed special hanging growing bags.
The new bags are made from Polypropylene. They are lighter in weight
than containers, re-useable, have much greater bursting strength, better pest resistance, tear resistant, can be air permeable,
do not degrade if wet and are moisture, pollutants, bacteria and mildew resistant,” says Nigel.Carrots,
chard, lettuces, tomatoes, peppers and parsley were all growing comfortably on or in the Ladder Allotment photographed.“We
have found that the bags retain enough water to produce healthy crops and planting,” says Ingrid, “but allow just
enough water to slowly seep out so as not to rot the roots. Perfect!
The bags are durable for a good few years
use but can be easily replaced when needed.”Design and manufactured in the UK, the ladder allotments
are made from sawn and pressure treated softwood which has been FSC or PEFC sourced from reputable suppliers in the UK.
It comes in three styles : 3 Tier (2 bags/1 shelf) and 4 Tier (3 bags/1 shelf) lean to versions and
a 3 Tier (2 bags/1 shelf) stand alone. Each Bag takes approximately 40 Litres of compost. All
Bags sizes are 960mm Long x 200mm Wide x 230mm Deep. The depth allows for the growing of root vegetables.
The New 'Ladder Allotment Plus' is available from Monday
4th October 2010sold exclusivey through The Ladder Allotment Company. From December 2010 it will be available from
only a few selected Garden Centres.
